My son’s name is Asa. He’s 12 years old with severe Cerebral Palsy. He was born at 29 weeks with the weight of 2 lbs. 3 oz.
Asa has been in a wheelchair for most of his life.
To transport him, I usually pick him up and place him in a car seat. The car seat is getting to small for him. Asa is getting bigger now and heavier. This is a life long situation for him. There is always hope that he may walk at some time. He’s energetic as heck. A fighter to the end. I know I wouldn’t be able to handle the things he went through physically or emotionally.
About 2 1/2 years ago Asa had a very rough time. We were going to doctor’s often to make sure he was going to be ok. After about a few months, he started coming around to being himself again. The most important thing is that Asa is comfortable and has what he needs because he is filled with so much love from his family.
I’ve managed to afford a minivan for his comfort but can’t afford the conversion. I’m sure it’s as uncomfortable for him as it is for me moving him around. Asa goes to Jefferson School here in Dunmore Pa. That’s one of his big excitements. Asa loves school and his teachers. He’s the happiest kid I know. H’s always laughing and smiling at you.
